Trauma Recovery: Reclaim Your Sense of Safety
Your past shapes your present, but it doesn’t have to define your future.
What Trauma Looks Like
Trauma disrupts your fundamental sense of safety in ways you might not immediately recognize. Many clients come to therapy saying, “I just can’t control my emotions” without realizing these reactions stem from past experiences.
Your body remembers what your mind tries to forget. Small triggers can spark intense emotional responses that feel out of proportion. Relationships become complicated as trust doesn’t come easily. Some days you feel everything too intensely; other days you feel nothing at all.
Sleep becomes a battlefield of nightmares or restless nights. Concentration wanders as your attention divides between now and then. Your body carries the weight through tension, pain, or unexplained symptoms.
This isn’t weakness – it’s your system trying to protect you. And with the right support, these same survival mechanisms can be redirected toward healing.
Trauma Treatment Approach
I approach trauma recovery with evidence-based methods, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – a powerful approach for emotional regulation. Having previously led Spanish DBT programs for LA County, I’ve seen how these skills transform lives.
DBT provides practical tools to navigate overwhelming emotions. You’ll learn to identify triggers, tolerate distress without harmful reactions, and build healthier relationships with yourself and others.
As a certified Prolonged Exposure therapist, I offer treatments specifically designed for PTSD while remaining attuned to your unique needs. We establish safety first, then work at a pace that feels right for you.
My approach acknowledges cultural dimensions of trauma, creating space for exploring how your background influences your healing journey. We’ll work together to understand the root causes – asking “how did we get here?” – to create meaningful, lasting change.
Online Trauma Therapy in Minnesota & California
Virtual sessions provide a secure environment for trauma work from the comfort of your own space in either Minnesota or California. My bilingual practice (English/Spanish) ensures language never becomes a barrier to receiving effective trauma treatment.
Together, we’ll work toward a future where your past experiences no longer control your daily life, but become integrated as part of your story of resilience and growth.
